Submit your book spine poems to our poetry contest!

Book Spine Poetry Contest
Shreve Memorial Library is holding a Book Spine Poetry Contest to celebrate National Poetry Month. During April, patrons can share their book spine poems with us on social media. At the end of the month, we’ll vote on a winner and share the winning poem on our website and on our social media!

Here are the rules for the SML Book Spine Poetry Contest:
  1. Grab at least three books.
  2. Stack them together to write a poem.
  3. Submit a picture of your poem to SML on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter by April 27.
  4. Tag us @shrevememorial & use #SMLBookSpinePoetry.
  5. Vote for your favorite book spine poems from April 28-30.

To make a book spine poem, all you have to do is gather a number of books with interesting titles and then arrange them to make a unique poem. PBS Kids has a great story about book spine poems and their origins. (You can also check our social media accounts for examples.)

All entries must be posted to one of our social media accounts by Thursday, April 27. The contest is open to all ages! The winner will be featured on our website and social media accounts. Our staff members are not eligible to enter the contest.

Be creative, have fun, and celebrate the magic of poetry! We will also be sharing book spine poems from staff throughout April on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
