Get ready for the solar eclipse at the library!

Solar Eclipse at SML
A solar eclipse will cut across the United States on Monday, August 21, and we are here to get you prepared! Some branches will host viewing parties for the event, while others have free safe viewing glasses available while supplies last.

In our area, we will have a partial solar eclipse. The eclipse will peak at 1:17 p.m. when the moon will obscure 78% of the sun. The last total solar eclipse occurred in 1991, and the next one won’t occur until 2024.

It is not safe to directly view the eclipse or look directly into the sun. If you plan to view the eclipse, make sure to have a pair of safe eclipse viewing glasses or a handheld solar viewer with certification on them (ISO 12312-2 international standard).
