Main Branch offers English Conversation sessions starting January 10

Are you looking for a no-pressure way to improve your English language skills? Come practice at the library! Our Main Branch is offering English Conversation sessions every two weeks beginning Wednesday, January 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

These sessions are an opportunity for patrons who speak English as a second language to practice speaking in conversation and improve their fluency and language skills.

Assistant Branch Manager Jacqueline Morales will lead the conversation sessions.

“We are hopeful this program will benefit members of our community who need opportunities to practice their English language skills in a stress-free environment,” Morales said.

We also offer additional tools to assist the community to learn to speak new languages. Our online resource Pronunciator is a fun and free way to learn any of 80 languages offered with self-directed lessons. Pronunciator is available through the State Library Databases or as an app for your smartphone or tablet. Users must have a library card to access the service.

English language learns might also want to know about our partnership with Bossier Parish Community College. BPCC offers adult education classes at our Main Branch. These classes are open to all adults 18 years old and older and can help you prepare for the HiSET® test, practice your English language skills, increase your command of digital literacy skills, and/or prepare for the citizenship test.

Registration takes place Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Branch. For more information on classes offered by BPCC, please contact Shelli Ulrich at (318) 678-6358 or Justin Tison via phone (318) 678-6405 or via email at
