Shreve Memorial Library Board of Control welcomes new board member, Don Howard, to its board. Howard was appointed earlier this year by Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler and will serve through December 2022. He succeeds former board member Hope Batts.
Howard is the Director of Career Services at Southern University at Shreveport. He is responsible for assisting students with preparing for the job search process and working with employers on their recruiting needs.
Howard has more than 15 years of experience in the fields of Workforce Development and Higher Education. Prior to joining SUSLA he served as Regional Director for Troops to Teachers for both Louisiana and Arkansas.
Howard received a BA in Sociology and a MS in Educational Leadership from Mississippi State University. In addition, he is a Global Career Development Facilitator and Instructor. He served 16 years in the Army National Guard and US Army Reserve and was commissioned as an officer through ROTC at Mississippi State University. He attained the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged. Howard enjoys meeting people where they are and helping them achieve their goals and dreams. He is married to Verni Howard and they have two children, Hannah and Matthew.
