The Genealogy Department will host an African-American Family History Workshop on Saturday, February 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop will take place in the Genealogy Department at the Broadmoor Branch of Shreve Memorial Library.
Erica L. Hubbard, the creator of the original Red River Sankofa Project, will share her vast experience with African-American genealogy in northwest Louisiana. Hubbard has been sharing under-reported history specific to African Americans along the upper Red River for the last 10 years through her website, http://redriversankofa.org. Hubbard has been making genealogy pilgrimages to the area since 2006.
During the workshop, you will learn how to research your family history, discover resources for performing your search, and get a tour of the Genealogy Department. There will also be one-on-one help as time allows. Most of the discussion in the workshop will emphasize research in northern Louisiana.
The workshop is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. For more information, call the Genealogy Department at 318-219-3468.
