Boxes Bring Award-Winning Reading Program into Homes
Shreve Memorial Library is excited to announce that it is partnering with Prime Time, Inc. and the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) to offer Prime Time Family and Preschool Boxes in Caddo Parish. Families in Caddo Parish may register to receive either a Prime Time Family Box or a Prime Time Preschool Box beginning Monday, May 15 at select Shreve Memorial Library branches.
Roughly one in four Louisiana students lacks access to the internet. In response to this barrier and the recent COVID-19 crisis, the award-winning Prime Time Reading program was adapted into Prime Time Reading Box, all-in-one boxes of books and supplies that are given directly to families.
Developed by the LEH in 1990, Prime Time Reading supports under-served children and families in inter-generational family reading and discussion and has been implemented in more than 40 states nationwide. Made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the CARES Act, Prime Time Family and Preschool Boxes are delivered and implemented when in-person Prime Time programs are not possible. Each box includes books, supplies and a parent-focused discussion and activity guide that provides support for at-home implementation of Prime Time’s humanities-centered methodology.
Families in Caddo Parish may apply to receive a Prime Time Family or Preschool Box at the following Shreve Memorial Library branches beginning Monday, May 15, 2023.
- Broadmoor Branch, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive
- Cedar Grove-Line Avenue Branch, 8303 Line Avenue
- Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop
- Mooringsport Branch, 603 Latimer Street, Mooringsport
- North Shreveport Branch, 4844 North Market Street
There is no cost to families, however quantities are limited, and Prime Time Family and Preschool Boxes are available while supplies last. Distribution of the Prime Time Family and Prime Time Preschool Boxes will occur the week of June 26 – June 30, 2023.
