September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when Shreve Memorial Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the many valuable resources available with a library card. The 2023 Library Card Sign-Up Month theme, “Get in Your Element,” reminds everyone that library cards are elemental to pursuing their dreams and interests. From borrowing books, e-books and audiobooks to getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending a book club or story time, a library card helps everyone do more of what they enjoy.
Throughout the month of September, Shreve Memorial Library is encouraging those without a library card to visit any of the library’s branches and sign-up for a library card. Additionally, those who have lost or misplaced their library cards may sign-up for a replacement card free of charge. In celebration of Shreve Memorial Library’s 100th anniversary, special limited edition SML library cards will be issued for all new library card sign-ups and replacements while supplies last.
Signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning. For this reason, Shreve Memorial Library’s Outreach Team will host a series of Library Card Sign-Up Month pop-up events to give those in the community a chance to obtain a library card. Library Card Sign-Up Month pop-up events are planned for:
- Friday, September 8, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., at Pierremont Mall (4801 Line Avenue)
- Monday, September 11, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at Betty Virginia Park (3901 Fairfield Avenue)
- Friday, September 15, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., at R.W. Norton Art Gallery (4747 Creswell Avenue)
- Tuesday, September 19, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., at Mall St. Vincent (1133 St. Vincent Avenue)
- Friday, September 22, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., at Sci-Port Discovery Center (820 Clyde Fant Parkway)
Additional dates and locations may also be scheduled during the month of September.
