Hop Into Spring with Easter Fun at SML

Shreve Memorial Library is inviting patrons of all ages to hop into spring with festive Easter egg hunts, spring crafts, and storytimes. Now through the Easter holiday, library branches throughout Caddo Parish will host family-friendly events and programs, providing multiple opportunities for springtime fun, photos, and visits from the Easter Bunny, himself. All programs are free and open to the public. However, registration may be required.

Children are invited to bring their Easter baskets and participate in Easter egg hunts at several Shreve Memorial Library branches. Children will be able to search for Easter eggs hidden throughout the library branch, meet the Easter Bunny, and complete a variety of crafts while visiting the library. Easter egg hunts are scheduled as follows at the library branches listed below:

Tuesday, March 24

  • 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the David Raines Branch, 2855 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive

Tuesday, March 31

  • 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Atkins Branch, 3704 Greenwood Road
  • 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Belcher-Wyche Branch, 409 Charles Street, Belcher

Thursday, April 2

  • 3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. at the Gilliam Branch, 12797 Main Street, Gilliam
  • 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Oil City Branch, 102 Allen Street, Oil City
  • 4:45 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the West Shreveport Branch, 4380 Pines Road

Children can also enjoy tales of the Easter Bunny and other springtime stories at interactive storytimes held at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch. Children will enjoy stories, sing songs and create spring-themed crafts at Pajama Storytime on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m. and at Terrific Thursday Storytime on Thursday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. The Hamilton/South Caddo Branch is located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

In addition, patrons of all ages can hop into spring by creating a number of Easter and springtime crafts. In Ida, patrons at the Means Branch, 7016 Magnolia Lane, will decorate Easter eggs on Wednesday, March 25 and make an egg carton craft on Wednesday, April 1. Both programs will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

At the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, library patrons will use technology to create a carrot-shaped treat box, perfect for storing Easter snacks, using the Cricut machine. The program will take place on Saturday, March 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Intermediate computer skills and registration is required for the event. Those interested can sign up by calling the branch at 318-674-6824.

On Thursday, April 2, the Hollywood/Union Avenue Branch and the Mooringsport Branch will offer Easter crafts for all ages. Adults at the Hollywood/Union Avenue Branch, located at 2105 Hollywood Avenue, are invited to make a DIY Easter Picture Frame from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. In Mooringsport, children ages 0 – 5 can make Easter Bunny headbands, while children ages 6 to 11 can make an Easter sign, and teens will color a stuffed bunny. The Mooringsport program will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Mooringsport Branch, located at 603 Latimer Street.

 As a reminder, all Shreve Memorial Library branches will be closed Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 5 for the Good Friday and Easter holidays. Patrons may utilize the library’s e-branch for all their library needs, including downloading eBooks and audiobooks and performing research, while the branches are closed.
