Shreve Memorial Library is offering tax filing assistance for library patrons as part of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, an IRS initiative that supports free tax preparation service for the underserved through partner organizations. Volunteers will be available at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch each Wednesday through April 8 to help patrons prepare their tax returns. The service is free and available to all individuals with incomes below $51,000.

Tax-filing assistance will take place each Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Tech Center of the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. Appointments are required and can be scheduled in person at the branch or by calling (318) 687-6824.

IRS Volunteers will be available to provide facilitated self-assistance (FSA), in which participants will prepare their own tax returns with help from a tax coach and free online software. Volunteers will not complete tax returns, but instead guide users through the online filing process.

Patrons will need to bring the following documents to complete their tax preparation: valid unexpired government photo ID, Social Security card or ITIN Letter, last year’s tax return showing AGI, as well as all W2s, 1099s, 1098s, 1095s and 1095A documents. In addition, participants must have their bank account information and routing number for direct deposit as no paper checks will be issued this year. Participants will also need to have an active email address and a flashdrive to save their tax returns digitally. Those wishing to print their returns may do so at a cost of $0.10 per page.

The VITA Tax Filing Assistance Program will continue through Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
