Children and their families are invited to visit Shreve Memorial Library for a taste of ballet and opera. The Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet and Shreveport Opera Xpress will visit library branches on Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10 to introduce children to the art forms of ballet and opera. Performances will be held at the Broadmoor and Hamilton/South Caddo branches.
On Monday, March 9, the Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet will visit the Broadmoor Branch, located at 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, to perform excerpts of the ballet, Snow White. The timeless story features original choreography by Artistic Director Kendra Meiki and an original score written by SMB Music Director Kermit Poling. Families and children of all ages are invited to visit the Broadmoor Branch from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to preview the ballet, meet the dancers, and learn more about classical ballet.
Shreveport Opera Xpress (SOX) will present Eat Right and Move! at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch on Tuesday, March 10. The 35-minute opera will teach children the importance of physical fitness, positive self-esteem, and a healthy, active lifestyle while introducing them to opera. The opera is designed for children in grades Pre-K through 5. The performance will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.
Both performances are free and open to the public. Children and families of all ages are encouraged to attend.
